Back Label
The Backbencher does not have a seat in the ministry and individually has little power to influence policy. He takes a back seat to the Frontbenchers. So too with merlot – it has always taken a backseat compared to more fashionable wines. Often misunderstood, when carefully crafted, it can be a rich, full flavoured, yet smooth and soft wine. This 2008 is typical of the excellent merlot produced from our Kyeema Vineyard. As a young wine, it will benefit from decanting. It is savoury and tight until it opens up and then it displays a rich spectrum of plum and spiced berry fruits. It is wonderful with roast beef, smoked meats and for afternoon tea with fruit cake.
