Breathtaking Autumn...
I LOVE autumn - it is my favourite time of the year. The Canberra Region is just so beautiful with all the trees flushed with colour. The change of season is one of the best things about living here.
Being a Sydney girl, it took some time to adjust to the Canberra climate - but I am now one of those people wearing short sleeves, when my visiting Sydney friends are donning their thermals!
I love waking up to see the autumn mists, across the paddocks and the smell of the first season fireplaces, being lit in the early mornings. This is a fantastic time of year to enjoy some comfort food, a glass of red wine and the company of friends.
Autumn is so beautiful in the vineyard. Every grape type has a different leaf and so they change colour at different times and they turn different colours. At the moment the vineyard has stripes of different coloured leaves - green, yellow and orange through to the deep red of the tempranillo vines. Of course the
tempranillo has red leaves - what other colour for this alluring Spanish grape?!
Speaking of tempranillo - ours has just received some great reviews. Huon Hooke has just rated it as "an outstanding wine - 5 stars - 93 points" in the Gourmet Traveller Top 100 new wine releases. So it certainly looks like there is a very bright future for this new variety of ours.
Huon Hooke also reviewed our Kyeema Vineyard reserve shiraz in the Sydney Morning Herald - Good Living. The review is also outstanding - 93 points.
All the 2009 fruit has arrived at the winery except for the sangiovese and our late picked riesling. We still have plenty of reds bubbling away in the open fermenters and we are getting all our whites ready for bottling.
As vintage winds down, we resume our normal tasks of taking care of the wines in barrels and tanks - preparing each for bottling as it becomes ready. Our next bottling is in June and will be all our 2009 whites. I cant wait to meet them!
Come out to GRAZING, enjoy some of our wines and Tom's great food - snuggle in by the fireplace. You will never want to leave.
