VineyardsThe Kyeema Vineyard - Our estate fruitThe vineyard produces exceptional quality fruit and is one of a small handful of Canberra vineyards to produce old vine shiraz. It has the enviable reputation of vines that are an old Penfold’s clone. The combination of age and clone make them unique within the region. In the past, the vineyard has set record prices for fruit within the district. Most of the vineyard was under contract to Hardys until 2006, and past vintages of the chardonnay have gone into ‘The Eileen Hardy’ and the 2005 wine made with our shiraz fruit was judged off for the Jimmy Watson trophy. The vineyard is located at Murrumbateman on a granite belt that runs on the eastern side of the Barton Highway. Only a small handful of vineyards within the region, sit on this type of granite profile. Our growersWe source hand selected parcels of quality fruit from the Canberra Region. Our growers are important to us and we select those that share our passion for producing high quality wine grapes. We also choose from various sites in order to create wines with complexity and depth. Barton EstateThe 220 acre property, on which the 20 acre Barton Estate vineyard is now situated was formerly part of the historic Jeir Station. The vineyard site was carefully chosen and is widely regarded as some of the best viticultural land in the district; red soils with a north - north east aspect on sunny slopes where frost risk is minimal. Ellenvale VineyardThe Ellenvale vineyard produces high quality spicy shiraz. Situated toward Yass it is lovingly tended by the Harriss family to produce beautiful fruit. Four Winds VineyardThe Four Winds Vineyard has been consistent in producing award winning riesling. We source riesling both for our table wine and also for our late picked 'Auslese' style riesling. The four Winds Vineyard is located at Murrumbateman on gentle north facing slopes and is cane pruned which we believe contributes to the quality of the fruit. Lambert's Tallagandra Lane VineyardThis Gundaroo vineyard on a protected northerly slope, is dear to our hearts - it was planted by Mark and Jennie in the late 1990s. Ruth and Steve Lambert, purchased the vineyard in early 2004 and it rewards them with outstanding fruit for their award winning riesling and Pinot Gris. The riesling vines are 'Giesenhiem' clones and we source this excellent fruit for our own beautiful riesling. Lawson EstateLawson Estate was established in 2001 by Jennifer and John Lawson. Both are very passionate about growing high quality wines. The block is located in the Hills of Hall area on a sheltered north facing slope which allows good cold air drainage and protects from frost. The Lawson's Sauvignon blanc vines produce grapes of very high quality and flavour which translate into wines of complex varietal flavours. Long Rail GullyOne of the district's largest vineyards, Long Rail Gully is at Murrumbateman. The Parker family have meticulous grape growing practices and we are please to get riesling and merlot from their wonderful vineyard. Point of View VineyardPoint of View Vineyard was established in 1992. It is a 12 acre, family-run vineyard which has supplied award-winning Merlot to Kyeema Wines since 1997. Martin restricts the yield of his Merlot vines by hard winter pruning, and by shoot and bunch thinning in season. Point of View is a boutique, cool climate vineyard which has enjoyed success in the wine show circuit over many years. Pialligo EstateLocated in the ACT, Pialligo Estate was the first winery in the District to plant Sangiovese, in 2000. The vineyard is a mixture of clones including two Brunello di Montalcino clones of Sangiovese. These grapes are blended with the original plantings to produce a richer and more complex wine. Quarry Hill VineyardQuarry Hill is a boutique, family owned and run vineyard with elevations ranging from 630m up to 655m. The easterly aspect of its stepped, terraced rows provides excellent morning sun exposure. The steepness of the vineyard has made it exceptionally frost-resistant, and the rocky soil ensures good drainage. Quarry Hill is one of three vineyards that provide us with Sauvignon Blanc. |
